Assessment and Evaluation
Google DocsI love Google docs! Students can fill out a questionnaire and tell me honestly how they did each quarter or for the entire year. I have found out so much is doing this and the data is rich with comments and interesting facts, that allows me to change direction or involve more students in the creative process of music.
Commenting
Students also comment on the blogs, files, and websites. Teaching students proper web etiquette is important, since this is how they communicate in today’s world. The word of mouth is a very powerful tool at Sunset Ridge. Students love to talk about the new technologies, files, and other musical projects.
AwardsThe evaluation process is a checklist for awards. The Fine Arts Awards are the biggest award assembly at Sunset Ridge with lights, movies, and of course - awards.
Fourth Grade Awards
Fifth Grade Awards
For an “Oscar” award you must do some activity “outside” the classroom activities: Piano recital, Dance recital, Choir, Church choir, School musical, outside theater productions, etc.
The sixth, seventh, and eighth grade awards are how well the student participated, mentored, and cooperated within the Talent Show, classroom and all-school musical. The awards are not given solely on talent, but on “how well you helped out others to create a positive show experience.” There is a “Diva” and “Music Man” award for those students that have demonstrated incredible talent and collaboration, along with participating in all performing opportunities.
The biggest award is the “Renaissance” award.
Those students must participate in band for five years, be in the all-school musical, have an art award, and participate in a school athletic team. Finally, “Friends of the Arts” award goes to those parents who support and help out the entire Fine Arts department. Awards validate and encourage students and parents how important the arts are, and all names are placed on a plaque in the front hallway for all generations to see, like leaving your “mark” on the school.
